How Deck Board and Fence Material Quantities Are Calculated
A deck's board count comes from fitting boards (plus a gap) across the deck's width, while a fence's panel count comes from dividing its total length by the panel width — both then rounded up to a whole number of pieces.

A 41-meter fence line divided by 2.4-meter panels comes out to 17.08 panels — rounding to the nearest whole number would give 17 and leave part of the fence line uncovered, so material calculators always round up instead.
